My Endo/Hyster Sisters

My thoughts lately have been with my friend Sara. She and I met on the We Are Endo site when it first launched, and became great friends. We've gone through a lot together. And now there is one more thing that we are destined to share.

She'll be having a hysterectomy at the end of March.

There were a few women who I got really close to from the We Are Endo site. Jenn was another.

She had her hyst a couple weeks after I did.

We're all in our mid twenties. Didn't want much out of life: we wanted to go to school, have a family, live a quiet, simple life.

Our endo histories were different; different stages, different symptoms, different treatments, different ages of onset.

We had plenty in common though. Debilitating pain. Classes missed. Heating pads. Endless doctor visits. Tears of frustration. Loneliness. Fear. Fur-babies. So-called "strong" pain medications. Watching everyone around us move on while we're curled up on the couch. Scared at what this was doing to our relationships. Missing out on the "normal" things in life. Wondering if we'll ever become mothers.

And soon we'll all be hyster sisters.

Going through a hysterectomy is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, let alone my best friends.

Yet here we are. 2 of us are over a year post op. And about to welcome Sara to our barren ranks.

  1. As much as it sucks....I couldn't be in better company. You are SUCH a good friend...and I know we were supposed to meet...because I couldn't do this without ya!

  2. If uterine transplants were safe and successful, I would so totally give you mine. {HUGS}

    P.S. I would buy a couple uteruses (uterii? jk) off the black market for your friends too.

  3. I don't even know what to say, besides I'm sorry. I know that things will look up and on, but, it just sucks. Period.

    You are a very strong person Sonja!

  4. Thinking of all of you! I don't know Jenn very well (though we are friends on weareendo), but you and Sara are two of my best friends, and I hurt so bad for all three of you. And for all of us with endo, but I hurt so bad that you've had to make the decision the three of you have, and at the ages you've had to. :(

  5. I had to say uterii, because my dumb roommate always corrected everyone by saying penii, so I googled it one day, and he was wrong lol. Good luck with your surgery, I wish you the best! Are you doing it in Atlanta too? Or elsewhere?

  7. ICLW - We often come together in times of trouble and deep need and there we forge our strongest and most meaningful relationships.

    This is a lovely post despite the theme and you and your friends are so fortunate to have each other!
